We grew up in a tiny house, and our kitchen was barely big enough for two people.
Still, it overflowed with dozens of glass jars filled with herbs, roots, seeds, spices—each with its own smell, its own purpose. It felt like something ancient lived there.

My mum used to sit with her dog-eared Ayurvedic book, reading it daily, mixing up remedies from what she had—tiny spoons of powder, oils, pastes, always changing.

But Sundays?
That was when she’d make “the potion.”
A thick, brown, disgusting tonic that she swore would flush the sugar and chocolate out of our system.

Me and my sister would literally cry at the sink, standing on a stool, trying anything to get out of drinking it.

She never let us off the hook.
And it worked. Every single time.

To this day, she still reads her little book (these are actual photos of the book). Still mixes her blends.
That wisdom never left her. And it stuck with me.
